Day 56 (03/08/2026)

Today was our first day in Cairns, and it ended up being one of the most memorable days of the entire trip. We had the opportunity to go snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, and it was honestly an unreal experience. Getting out on the water alone was incredible, but once we got in, it was on a completely different level. The water was crystal clear, and everywhere you looked there was something new—colorful coral, schools of fish, and all kinds of marine life.

It’s hard to describe how cool it is to actually be in a place like that rather than just seeing pictures of it. You really get a sense of how massive and diverse the reef is, and it makes you appreciate how unique this environment is. It also made me think about how important it is to protect places like this, especially with how much impact people can have on them.

Overall, it was an amazing way to start our time in Cairns. Between being out on the ocean, experiencing the reef firsthand, and just taking in everything around us, it’s definitely a day I won’t forget anytime soon and easily one of the highlights of the trip so far.
