Day 40 (2/20/2026)

Today was a really interesting day and felt a lot more tied into what we’ll actually be doing after graduation. We visited the LT McGuinness jobsite at the District Court in Auckland, and it was a super cool project to see in person. What stood out the most was how many restrictions they’re working under. Being right in the middle of downtown and inside an active court building, everything has to be carefully planned around ongoing operations. It’s not like a normal jobsite where you can just work freely, they have to coordinate around court schedules, security requirements, and limited access, which adds a whole extra layer of complexity.

One of the more memorable parts was going inside the holding cells. It was honestly pretty claustrophobic, and it gave a real sense of how tight and controlled those spaces are. It definitely makes you think differently about the design and construction of spaces like that, especially with all the security considerations involved.

After the site visit, we ended up going to the University of Auckland campus to get some work done. It turned out to be a really good spot, they have free WiFi, plenty of seating, and a good environment to focus. It was nice to find a place like that where we can go later in the day and be productive. Overall, it was a great mix of real-world experience and getting some solid work done.
