Today was a really cool day and probably one of my favorites so far. We visited Unitec University, and it was awesome to see their campus and how their construction and design programs are set up. The campus itself had a really open feel to it, and you could tell there’s a big emphasis on hands-on learning rather than just sitting in a classroom.
The highlight for me was definitely the prefabricated homes the students were working on. It was really interesting to see actual structures being built by students, not just models or drawings. You could tell they were learning real-world skills that directly translate to the industry. Seeing how everything was organized and constructed gave me a better understanding of how prefabrication works and why it’s becoming more popular. It also made me think about how different programs approach teaching construction, and how valuable that kind of experience is.
After that, we went out to dinner at a Turkish restaurant right on the water, which was a great way to wrap up the day. The food was really good, and the atmosphere made it even better. Sitting outside, right by the water, with the city lights reflecting off it was unreal.
Auckland at night is honestly just a really nice place to be. The city feels alive, but not overwhelming, and everything just looks really clean and put together. It was a great way to end the day and definitely one I’ll remember.
